A collaboration between TCDC and the German Embassy in Thailand, “East Meets West” exhibition presents the work of Yang Liu, the Berlin-based Chinese designer who has won several prestigious awards such as Red Dot Award 2005 and 2010 (International Award for Communications Design) and “The most beautiful book of China 2009” award from Frankfurt Book Fair 2009.

“East Meets West” visualizes the cultural differences between Asian and Western thinking. Yang Liu’s works show how it is possible to reduce complex cultural issues of mentality to very expressive pictograms. The designer approaches the subject with humour and without judgement. Her exhibition was highly successful in various places in Europe and in China.

Liu is the founder of Yang Liu Design in Berlin and also a professor and the head of the Department of Communications Design at the Berlin Technical Art University. Born in China, Liu has lived in Germany since she was 14. The experience of growing up in these two different worlds gives her an insight into the East-West Dichotomy.

The designer will also conduct a lecture to introduce the exhibition, her other projects from Berlin, Beijing, London and New York, as well as her work as a professor at the Berlin Technical Art University. The lecture will be held on February 23 at 18.00 – 19.00 at Material ConneXion Bangkok.
