LAMONT is a product design company, based in Thailand, with a strong reputation for high quality original designs created with unique and rare materials.

"I spent my Saturdays and holidays working in my father's warehouse. I would break open the wooden crates and unwrap newspapers in different languages to find papier-mache eggs from Kashmir, teak animal boxes from Thailand, thorn carvings from Nigeria. The experience was very tactile and the best training in the quality (or otherwise) of craft. A beautiful handmade object will cry out "please touch me". Many of these materials change over time—the lacquer brightens, the gold darkens. It's this voice and the quiet life of objects—the soul—that we are searching for in our designs" - Alex Lamont

Alexander Lamont has been surrounded by folkart and antiques since he was 2 years old. Living in Africa and India and later growing up in rural England, his family ran a business called Global Village Crafts that dealt in antiques and objects from Asia. He came to Thailand first in 1980 and later graduated in Thai Language and Anthropology at Londons School of Oriental and African Studies. Early exposure to the techniques and materials of craft provided a rich education for the business he started in Thailand in 1999. Exquisite artworks and furniture are made in his workshop in Bangkok, where sculptural and architectural forms are infused with a rich palette of natural and traditional skills.

In Bangkok Alex has drawn together a team of over seventy artists, craftsmen, designers and supporting staff to create a company that has become a a destination in Asia for objects and furniture with design and craft integrity. Any of the five LAMONT stores in Thailand are barometers of evolving concepts, latest finds and experimentation that define the company's creative process.
